Knowledge is Power on the Road to Enlightenment

Knowledge is Power on the Road to Enlightenment

Side-by-Side

Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead.

Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow.

Just walk beside me and be my friend.

-Albert Camus

What is Wrong with our World

Another great video by Omega Point which showcases a speech by the late Alan Watts.

Do More

“Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work.”

— William Arthur Ward

Wise Words

“Be brave. Even if you’re not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference. Don’t allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It’s there for your convenience, not the callers. Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is. Don’t burn bridges. You’ll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river. Don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated. Don’t major in minor things. Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. Don’t spread yourself too thin. Learn to say no politely and quickly. Don’t use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Don’t waste time grieving over past mistakes Learn from them and move on. Every person needs to have their moment in the sun, when they raise their arms in victory, knowing that on this day, at his hour, they were at their very best. Get your priorities straight. No one ever said on his death bed, ‘Gee, if I’d only spent more time at the office’. Give people a second chance, but not a third. Judge your success by the degree that you’re enjoying peace, health and love. Learn to listen. Opportunity sometimes knocks very softly. Leave everything a little better than you found it. Live your life as an exclamation, not an explanation. Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life and death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems. Never cut what can be untied. Never overestimate your power to change others. Never underestimate your power to change yourself. Remember that overnight success usually takes about fifteen years. Remember that winners do what losers don’t want to do. Seek opportunity, not security. A boat in harbor is safe, but in time its bottom will rot out. Spend less time worrying who’s right, more time deciding what’s right. Stop blaming others. Take responsibility for every area of your life. Success is getting what you want. Happiness is liking what you get. The importance of winning is not what we get from it, but what we become because of it. When facing a difficult task, act as though it’s impossible to fail.”

Jovenes

Whats Left for the young to try?

Whats left for the young to try i this world of patience and disgust?
Only Graffiti? Rock? Skepticism?
They still have to not say Amen
not allow others to destroy their love
recover speech and Utopia
Be young without hurry and with memory
Situate themselves in a story that is all of their own
not turn into premature old people.

Whats left for the young to try in this world of routine and ruins?
Cocaine? Beer? Mobs and mosh pits?
They are still to breathe. Open their eyes.
Discover the roots of horror
Invent peace, even if they have to fight for it.
Understand themselves with Nature,
and with the rain and lightening,
and with feelings and with death
that crazy one that ties and unties

Whats left for young people to try in this world of consumption and smoke?
Vertigo? Assaults? Discos?
They are still to argue with god and wether he exists or not
to have hands that help. Open doors in their own hearts and those of others
Above all they are still to make the future
in spite of the ruins of the past and the rogues of the present

-Mario Benedetti

Our Greatest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other

people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Taste as many as you can

Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. YOU HAVE TO LOVE. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.

-Louise Erdrich

Techno Junkies

Very Interesting Zen Pencil Comic about the addictive properties of technology. I found it to be sadly sort of true. Social Media turned us all into reality tv stars. Everything we do, our entire lives are showcased for the virtual world to see. We measure success and popularity with likes and page hits, but what does it all mean? What sort of effects is this having in our lives? In our brains? I don’t know, time will tell if this is a good or bad thing. But what I do know is that we have to be careful with technology as it permeates deeper into our lives. Is it good to be under the spotlight at all times, always exposed? Where do we draw the line? Internet addiction is becoming an increasing problem in many parts of the world so be aware and use it but don’t abuse it. While we all like to connect and share with others in this virtual realm we can’t forget that life, the real thing, is not in these little computer screens and machines but out there. We need to step away from the screens and go out into the world, experience, and do the things we love. It’s crucial that we push the electronic bullshit aside, give it a break, and take a breath.  One last thing, don’t do things for likes, it seems sort of shallow. We don’t need other people to tell us that what we are doing is cool. The important thing is that we like it, the rest doesn’t matter.

More or Less

Every moment of one’s existence one is growing into more or retreating into less. One is always living a little more or dying a little bit.
