Be Brave

“Be brave. Even if you’re not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference. Don’t allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It’s there for your convenience, not the callers. Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is. Don’t burn bridges. You’ll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.

Don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated. Don’t major in minor things. Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

Don’t spread yourself too thin. Learn to say no politely and quickly. Don’t use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved. Don’t waste time grieving over past mistakes Learn from them and move on. Every person needs to have their moment in the sun, when they raise their arms in victory, knowing that on this day, at his hour, they were at their very best.

Get your priorities straight. No one ever said on his death bed, ‘Gee, if I’d only spent more time at the office’. Give people a second chance, but not a third. Judge your success by the degree that you’re enjoying peace, health and love. Learn to listen. Opportunity sometimes knocks very softly. Leave everything a little better than you found it.

Live your life as an exclamation, not an explanation. Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life and death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems. Never cut what can be untied. Never overestimate your power to change others. Never underestimate your power to change yourself. Remember that overnight success usually takes about fifteen years.

Remember that winners do what losers don’t want to do. Seek opportunity, not security. A boat in harbor is safe, but in time its bottom will rot out. Spend less time worrying who’s right, more time deciding what’s right. Stop blaming others. Take responsibility for every area of your life. Success is getting what you want. Happiness is liking what you get. The importance of winning is not what we get from it, but what we become because of it. When facing a difficult task, act as though it’s impossible to fail.”

— Jackson Brown Jr.

Anything is Possible

I’m grateful for anything that reminds me of what’s possible in this life. Books can do that. Films can do that. Music can do that. School can do that. It’s so easy to allow one day to simply follow into the next, but every once in a while we encounter something that shows us that anything is possible, that dramatic change is possible, that something new can be made, that laughter can be shared.

-Jonathan Safran Foer

Carpe Diem

I like to accredit the right person when I post work which isn’t my own but i’m not exactly sure who the author or this piece is. It is generally attributed to Walt Whitman, a genius of the written word, but I couldn’t confirm it. Regardless, I’m sure whoever wrote it did it with the hopes that it would inspire others. That being said, the most important thing is to share it. Inspire and be Inspired !

Carpe Diem

Don’t allow the day to end without having grown a bit,

without being happy, without feeding your dreams.

Don’t be defeated by discouragement.

Don’t allow anyone to take away your right to express yourself,

which is almost a duty.

Don’t abandon the desire to make something extraordinary of your life.

Don’t stop believing that words and poetry can change the world.

No matter what happens, our essence is intact.

We are beings filled with passion.

Life is both desert and Oasis.

It knocks us down, it hurts us, it teaches us,

it turns us into the protagonists of our own stories.

Even if the winds blow against us,

the powerful masterpiece continues:

You can add a stanza.

Never stop dreaming,

because in Dreams Man can be free.

Don’t fall into the most fatal of errors: Silence.

The majority live in a frightful silence.

Don’t resign yourself to this, flee…..

“I emit my screams from the roofs of this world”, says the poet.

Value the beauty of the simple things.

One can make beautiful poetry about little things.

Don’t betray you beliefs,

because we can’t row against our own selves:

That turns life into hell.

Enjoy the panic provoked by having your life in front of you.

Live it intensely, without mediocrity.

Remember that the future is within you,

so face your duties with pride and without fear.

Learn from those who can teach you.

From the experiences of those that preceded us,

our “Dead Poets”,

They will help you walk through life.

The society of today is us:

The “Living Poets”

Don’t allow life to get by you

without living it…..

No te resignes, huye…

“Emito mis alaridos por los tejados

de este mundo”,dice el poeta.

Valora la belleza de las cosas simples.

Se puede hacer bella poesía sobre pequeñas cosas,

No traiciones tus creencias.

7 Blunders

Seven Blunders of the world that lead to violence: Wealth without Work, Pleasure without Conscience, Knowledge without Character, Commerce without Morality, Science without Humanity, Worship without Sacrifice, Politics without Principle.

Before We Found Our Way

WE HUMANS ARE CAPABLE OF GREATNESS. It’s very hard to believe that with the knowledge of how precious our planet is humanity continues to treat it like garbage. We think it holds an infinite amount of resources for us to take and consume with no regards to the natural order of things. If we’re not dumping shit, we are extracting it, all at a faster pace and in ever increasing numbers. If the dreams of Carl Sagan are to become true, humanity needs to re-evaluate its relationship to the living biological entity we call home. Planet earth creates humans, we are made from it, not the other way around. It takes only a little bit of common sense to realize that if you destroy that which sustains you, you will surely be destroyed as well. Let’s take care of the natural world we are a part of and let’s stop with the bullshit. Let’s change this outdated and inefficient world we have created and truly work to create a healthy and sustainable world where all humans can not only survive, but thrive until eternity. We can create a world of abundant happiness and health, we are capable of greatness. Our species has gotten lost lately, and we’ve headed down some wrong paths but we hold a special and unique purpose in the cosmos and we must strive to find our way.

Pursue your Happiness

Scene from the movie The Pursuit of Happyness based on Chris Gardner’s nearly one year struggle with homelessness. In the scene, the character played by Will Smith explains to his son that he can’t allow anyone to discourage him from chasing his dreams.

“Don’t ever let somebody tell you….. you can’t do something. Not even me, alright. You got a Dream you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves and they tell you YOU can’t do it. You want something….. GO GET IT. Period.

What is Reality?

Joe Rogan talks about the reality, life, and the imagination. It reminds us to stand in awe to the magical universe that surrounds us, and to the mysterious and miraculous experience we are all sharing. Enjoy !

The Other Side

Talking about death makes people very anxious. That’s if you ever manage to talk about it. Most of the time it isn’t until someone you know passes away that any discussion on death takes place. You are forced to confront it when it hits close to home. In a way I understand why people don’t want to talk about it, it’s sort of a downer subject. But talking is the best therapy, and when death hits close to home, as it sure will at some point, it won’t hit as hard if you had previously acknowledged this sad, grim but all too real aspect of life. Even if its in a small way, talking will helps us deal with death when we have to face it.

You ever wonder what happens when you die and cross over into the other side? We go through life thinking we know what the fuck is going on, thinking there is a certain order and structure to things when in reality we have no idea how or why things go. We have no idea  what this crazy experience we call life is really all about, and we are even more clueless when it comes to death. When or if we move on is a mystery to us all and no one knows what will happen. I certainly don’t know, religious people don’t know, gurus and politicians don’t know, even the wisest among us don’t know. Everyone has ideas and suppositions but the best ideas are just guesses, no one truly knows the meaning of things, no one knows where it is that we go when we pass. The truth is that no one has ever come back from the other side to tell us about it.

Maybe, if you were a pious and good person, you take the conventional route and go up to heaven where you will rejoice in the presence of god and live in angelic harmony and eternal peace. Maybe, if you were a bad and naughty person who “sinned” repeatedly,  just the opposite could be true and you end up experiencing physical and physiological torture for eternity as you burn in hell. That sounds discouraging but whether we take the ladder to heaven or the highways to hell is is a mystery. I think it’s possible that your fate, decided at the moment of judgment the day you die, depends on how you lived your life. Maybe you are re-born into an other life, where you placement depends on your actions in you past life. If you do good then each life gets progressively better and this way you keep moving forward, growing and evolving a little more in each life. Maybe you simply cease to exist and you experience eternal-solitary-dark-nothingness. Shit, for all we know, maybe this life is just a heaven and hell for another reality in some other world. Sounds crazy but who the fuck knows.

You can believe in any story you like,  but remember them for what they are, stories. They are just guesses of what might happen, things we tells ourselves in order to make sense of things we can’t truly grasp and comprehend. It’s the same with religious teachings they are just stories and it’s okay to believe in them, especially if they help you to be a better person. I personally don’t do good things because I expect to be rewarded in the next life just like I don’t’ avoid doing negative shit because i’m afraid of going to hell. I do choose to good because it’s good. Period, that’s enough for me. Doing good things brings you closer to god, the life force of this universe, not when you get to heaven and not in the next life, but in this life.

Not knowing the meaning of life doesn’t take away from the fact that life, even with its hardship s and sufferings, is truly a beautiful, wonderful and miraculous experience. The uncertainty associated with death can make people incredibly afraid. What a strange predicament us humans are in, we live knowing we are going to die. We are blessed with our intelligent and powerful minds and at the same time cursed, not only to die, but to know we must, we are conscious of our temporary existence. But I think knowing we are going to die makes the lucky ones because in order to die you have to be alive first. Knowing we will some day die should motivate us to make the most of our experience here on earth.

Life and Death are two subjects that are beyond our understanding. So why do we spend so much time stressing about it, dreading and fearing it? isn’t it senseless if you can’t prevent it? It comes natural for human beings to look for reasons and answers, but i think that sometimes the secret is to live without the answers. In part, it’s the mysteries of life that give it its magic and life is better when it’s magical.

To wrap this up, what we do in this life might have some sort of influence in our next lives, i like to believe this, but i’m not really sure about it. But what i do know with a certainty is that we have some say in this life, the one we are currently living. Like William Henley said in his wonderful poem, we are the masters of our fate and the captains of our souls. We should worry and preoccupy ourselves with that which we can control, ourselves, and worry about our development and progress. You can spend your life as you think you should, in any way you want, but remember that your life is an example for others to see. Remember that your life could be the most fantastic adventure. Our lives can be one epic journey. Don’t let the fear of death bring you down and consume you, rather, let death be your companion and take it with you everywhere you go. Let death be your life long reminder that you are here on this earth to LIVE. Our purpose is to be alive, so let death motivate you to truly and fully live your life. Like always, keep growing, in the light direction.

“Death is the indispensable ingredient in having to believe. Without the awareness of death everything is ordinary, trivial, It is only because death is stalking us that the world is an unfathomable mystery. Without an awareness of the presence of our death there is no power, no mystery.”

“My interest has been to convince you that you must assume responsibility for being here, in this marvellous world, in this marvelous desert, in this marvelous time. I want to convince you that you must learn to make every act count, since you are going to be here for only a short while, in fact, too short for witnessing all the marvels of it.”
