Technoslaves

Technoslaves

A very informative and important article from ad-busters that highlights the problems associated with being so intertwined with modern day technologies (computers, i-pad, smart-phones and things of the like). Whats even more worrisome are current and future generations of young children who are immersed in these technologies from day one. What effect is it having on them? What effect is it having on us? The rates of Internet addicts are on the rise and have reached alarming levels. Being able to manage your time between virtual and physical worlds appropriately is crucial. We all need time to log off, time to step away form technology and worry about the real things that truly matter. Like it states in the article, “It seems the more ‘connected’ we are, the more detached we become”.We cannot become slaves to Technology

Carl & Ellie- A love Story

In these 7 minutes of animated genius from Pixar’s movie UP, we witness the simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming story of Carl & Ellie. This short clip shows how wonderful story telling can be at describing, explaining, and expressing certain aspects of life.  When done right it projects a vivid and emotional account of things that would be otherwise be very difficult to explain.  I can’t think of any other movie, animation, or story that can describe love in a more complete way. And all done without the use of any words. Well done !

@Simply Living

I have not let myself fall into despair, even when the news has not been what I hoped for. I just put one foot in front of the other and keep moving and am grateful for each day.

Self Mastery

In order to truly have power and control over our lives, we have to bring the mind and the heart together. It’s very hard to try and understand the matters of the heart and even harder still to apply reason to emotions;nonetheless, it is crucial to try to figure out why we do what we do and feel what we feel. But we can’t be all reason and no emotion and we can’t be all emotion and no reason. Like in most things in life balance is key. You can’t allow your emotions to control you and at the same time you can’t try to control all your emotions. You can have the best and smartest brain in the world but it is useless if you don’t have heart. Likewise, you can have the biggest and kindest heart in the world but it can go to waste if you don’t know where and how to apply it. We have to find the right balance between the two. A Ladakhi Monk from Kashmir, in the Indian-Tibetan border once said “Just like the two wings of a bird must be balanced for it to fly, so one cannot attain enlightenment unless wisdom is accompanied by compassion.” It is those that can control and bring together their hearts and minds that will have true power.

True Warrior***

Tell me, what is that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

-Mary Oliver, Poet

You Cannot live a political life, you cannot live a moral life if you’re not willing to open your eyes and see the world more clearly. See some of the injustice that’s going on. Try to make yourself aware of what’s happening in the world. And when you are aware, you have a responsibility to act.

-Bill Ayers, cofounder of the Weather Underground

We Will have to build that resistance from whatever comes to hand: whispers and prayers, history and dreams, from our bravest words and braver actions. It will be hard, there will be a cost, and in too many implacable dawns it will seem impossible. But we will have to do it anyway. So gather your heart and join with every living being. With love as our First Cause, how can we fail?
