Find the Courage to Grow

This is a song for those
Who lost their hope
A long a long time ago
I know someday that you will find it somehow
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Because you’re not too old to accomplish goals
And all the answers are within your soul
It’s up to you, you gotta figure it out
Uh huh

Whether you want love or money
Good fortune or fame
You want a brand new card
You want the world to change
You better take some action right now, oh yes
Because there’s nothing in the world that you can’t get
So don’t fill your life with confusion and regret
You better take some chances right now
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah

Well you can gain the world
But for the price of your soul
Yes I know, well I know, yes I know
You can gain the world for the price of your soul
But I hope you take the road less travelled
And I hope you find the courage to grow
Well I hope you find the courage to grow
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

So now you’re 45 and you realize
Just what you wanna do with your life
Just took some time for you to figure it out, uh huh
Cause everyone one of us has a purpose here
Sometimes it’s hidden underneath your fear
Just takes some time for the truth to come out

You can gain the world for the price of your soul
But I hope you take the road less travelled
And I hope you find the courage to grow
Well I hope you find the courage to grow

Live to Learn

Tim Minchin – Live to Learn
Comedian Tim Minchin imparts nine life lessons full of hilarity and wisdom, revealing the only sensible thing you should do with your existence.

One. You don’t have to have a dream. Fine, if you have something you’ve always wanted to do, dreamed of in your heart, go for it. After all, it’s something to do with your time, chasing a dream. I never really had one of these dreams. I advocate passionate dedication to the pursuit of short-term goals. Be micro-ambitious. Put your head down and work with pride on whatever is in front of you. You never know where you might end up. Just be aware the next worthy pursuit will probably appear in your periphery, which is why you should be careful of long-term dreams. If you focus too far in front of you, you won’t see the shiny thing out of the corner of your eye.

Two. Don’t seek happiness. Happiness is like an orgasm. If you think about it too much, it goes away. Keep busy and aim to make someone else happy and you might find you get some as a side effect.

Three. Remember, it’s all luck. You are lucky to be here. You are incalculably lucky to be born. Understanding that you can’t truly take credit for your successes, nor truly blame others for their failures, will humble you and make you more compassionate. Empathy is intuitive, but is also something you can work on intellectually.

Four. Exercise. You think, therefore you are, but also you jog, therefore you sleep, therefore you’re not overwhelmed by existential angst. Play a sport, do yoga, pump iron, run, whatever, but take care of your body. You’re going to need it. Most of you mob are going to live to nearly 100, and even the poorest of you will achieve a level of wealth that most humans throughout history could not have dreamed of. This long, luxurious life ahead of you is going to make you depressed.

Five. Be hard on your opinions. We must think critically and not just about the ideas of others. Be hard on your beliefs. Take them out onto the veranda and hit them with a cricket bat. Be intellectually rigorous. Identify your biases, your prejudices, your privileges. Most of society’s arguments are kept alive by a failure to acknowledge nuance.

Six. Be a teacher. Please, please, please be a teacher. Teachers are the most admirable and important people in the world. You don’t have to do it forever, but if you’re in doubt about what to do, be an amazing teacher. Even if you’re not a teacher, be a teacher. Share your ideas. Don’t take for granted your education. Rejoice in what you learn and spray it.

Seven. Define yourself by what you love. We have a tendency to define ourselves in opposition to stuff. As a comedian, I make my living out of it. But try to also express your passion for things you love. Be demonstrative and generous in your praise of those you admire. Send thank you cards and standing ovations. Be pro-stuff, not just anti-stuff.

Eight. Respect people with less power than you. I have in the past made important decisions about people I work with, agents and producers, big decisions based largely on how they treat the wait staff in the restaurants we’re having the meeting in. I don’t care if you’re the most powerful cat in the room. I will judge you on how you treat the least powerful. So there.

Nine, finally, don’t rush. You don’t need to already know what you’re gonna do with the rest of your life. Don’t panic. You will soon be dead. Life will sometimes seem long and tough and, God, it’s tiring. You will sometimes be happy and sometimes sad, and then you’ll be old and then you’ll be dead. There is only one sensible thing to do with this empty existence, and that is fill it. Not “fillet,” fill it. Life is best filled by learning as much as you can about as much as you can, taking pride in whatever you’re doing, having compassion, sharing ideas, running, being enthusiastic, and then there’s love and travel and wine and sex and art and kids and giving and mountain-climbing. But you know all that stuff already.
It’s an incredibly exciting thing, this one meaningless life of yours. Good luck and thank you for indulging me.

Say Something

Say something, I’m giving up on you
I’ll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would’ve followed you
Say something, I’m giving up on you

And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall
I’m still learning to love
Just starting to crawl

Say something, I’m giving up on you
I’m sorry that I couldn’t get to you
Anywhere, I would’ve followed you
Say something, I’m giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride
You’re the one that I love
And I’m saying goodbye

“And sometimes we walk away. Not necessarily because we want to do it. We have to. And don’t say it’s cowardly. You must be very brave.”

“If only you had been able to see all my efforts, the times I sacrificed things for five more minutes by your side, maybe then things would have been different.”

“Don’t think about someone who doesn’t think about you, don’t wait for someone who will not come. Don’t lose sleep over someone who wouldn’t die to sleep by your side, to feel both sides of your bed. Love yourself a little more.”

“Doesn’t cry but writes. Doesn’t fall in love but reads. Doesn’t believe but smiles…… and in that deep absence he continues to breathe beauty.

Live Forever

The time will come when we are all condemned for what we’ve done

[Verse 1: Shad]
I say the times begun to pay for our crimes no time to run
It’s sundown these days are the final ones
Looking dumbfounded staring in the eye of a gun
And we all scared to die we all fear the pallbearer
All scared to cry we all fear our salt tears
But why when we live it’s so miserable
Can’t get along why is forgiving so difficult
Why we live alone, what we living for is critical
Someone give some hope that’s breath for our living souls
Even if your physical can’t breathe stand up and lead
Me and my band of brothers advance under siege
Move towards the future the commander and chief
Plant a flag on this soul call if land of the free
Every day both rich and poor wonder what we living for

[Hook: Dallas Green]
We’re gonna live forever
(What we gonna live for)

And when the smoke finally clears we’re gonna rise above the ash
We’re gonna live
We’re gonna live
We’re gonna live forever

Like this
I can’t sweat trying to make the coolest impression
Trying to get power is a foolish obsession
Why use talent as a tool for oppression
A real king ain’t got to rule with a weapon
Dog what if we went to school for possession instead of jail
They say to stop the crazy talk Shad we never will
I guess I still believe love can never fail
Cross eyes on heaven looking crazy as hell
Maybe I dwell too much on legacy, destiny
Like I could ever read whats on the headstone ahead of me
But in my head I see we are carving the letters
Everyday that thought makes me work hard for the better
The truth comes out but it starts at the center
The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart
The heart’s made of matter that you can’t measure
That matters beyond measure like light when it travels in the dark

Bonito/Beautiful

Todo me parece bonito
Bonita mañana
Bonito lugar
Bonita la cama
Qué bien se ve el mar

Bonito es el día
que acaba de empezar

Bonita la vida
Respira, respira, respira

Everything looks Beautiful to me

Beautiful Morning
Beautiful place
Beautiful bed
The sea looks so nice.

Beautiful is the day that has just begun
Life is Beautiful
Breathe…….Breathe.

Phone rings, it’s my friend complaining:
“Things aren’t going well, life is weighing down on me, I don’t want to keep living like this, there is no reason to continue on. Love is lost, the party is over. The engine that pushes the world stopped working. Life is a joke with a sad ending and the future doesn’t exist.”

But I respond…

Beautiful, everything looks beautiful to me.

Peace is Beautiful

Life is Beautiful.

It’s beautiful to be born again every day.

Truth is beautiful when it doesn’t sound like a lie.

Friendship is beautiful

Laughter is beautiful

People of quality are Beautiful.

People with no regrets are beautiful,
that win and lose, that talk and don’t lie.

People are beautiful and for that i say,
Beautiful, everything looks beautiful to me.
How Beautiful things are when things are beautiful.

The sea, the morning, the house, the shadow, the earth, peace and the life which passes.

Your calm, your sauce, the spot on your back, your face, your energy in the weekends.

Beautiful the people who come and go,
Beautiful the people who never stop.

Beautiful the people with no age,
that listen, that understand, that give what they have.

Beautiful is the breeze with no hurry
This day is Beautiful…Breathe….. Breathe.

Beautiful the people who are real

Beautiful the people who are different.
Who tremble, who feel,
who live in the present.

Beautiful the people who are no longer with us.

Beautiful, Everything looks beautiful to me.

Things Learned/ Cosas Aprendidas

Life Lessons

I’ve learned that you cannot make someone love you.  All you can do is be someone who can be loved.  The rest is up to them.

I’ve learned that no matter how much I care some people just don’t care back.

I’ve learned that just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

I’ve learned that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I’ve learned that it’s not what you have in your life, but whom you have in your life that counts.

I’ve learned that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I’ve learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I’ve learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I’ve learned that sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

I’ve learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you’ve had and what you’ve learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you’ve celebrated.

I’ve learned that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I’ve learned that no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I’ve learned that sometimes we hurt the ones we love and sometimes they also hurt us. We have to learn to forgive and be forgiven.

I’ve learned that it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others.  Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I’ve learned that just because two people argue, it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other.  And, just because they don’t argue, it doesn’t mean they do.

I’ve learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

I’ve learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt, and you will hurt in the process.

I’ve learned that you should never tell a child their dreams are unlikely or outlandish.  Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would be if they believed it.

I’ve learned that heroes are people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I’ve learned that you can become anything you want

I’ve learned that you can keep going long after you can’t.

The Carpenter’s House La Casa del Carpintero

The Carpenter’s House

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family.

He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by with what they already had.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes and began working, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.”

What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized that we would have done it differently.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is possibly the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, “Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today
