Spirit Bird

Soldier on, soldier on my good country man.

Keep fighting for your culture, now keep fighting for your land.

I know its been thousands of years and I feel your hurt and I know its wrong and you feel you’ve been chained and broken and burned.

And those beautiful old people, those wise old souls, have been ground down for far too long.

By that spineless man, that greedy man, that heartless man, deceiving man, government hand taking blood and land, taking blood and land.

Still they can, but your dreaming and your warrior spirit lives on.

It is so so so strong, in the earth in the trees, in the rocks, in the water, in your blood and in the air we breathe.

Soldier on soldier on my good country man. Keep fighting for your children now keep fighting for your land.

Youtube video of the song “Spirit Bird” by Australian singer and songwriter Xavier Rudd. In this song, like in many of his other ones, he explores the socially conscious themes of spirituality, humanity, environmentalism and the rights of aboriginal communities, who continue to be persecuted after hundreds of years. Their people are wounded but the aboriginal spirit is stronger by the day. It lives inside a lot of people in industrial civilization who listen to their wisdom. After all, we are working for the same cause and fighting the same struggle, all working to make the world a better place. We are brothers and sisters, and together, we must continue on with the monumental work of preserving the greatest miracle in the universe: life. Put on some headphones and take the 7 minutes to enjoy this wonderful and emotionally charged song. I hope this song speaks to you. Listen to its words and try to understand its meaning. Like Mr. Jalbert, a wonderful teacher I had the pleasure of learning with, used to say, “La Lucha Continua”, “The struggle continues”.

Incredible People/ Personas Increibles

I couldn’t track down the source for this poem. But, even if i don’t know who to recognize as the writer, I think beautiful pieces must be shared. I made some changes to it especially in translating it but never to change the essence or meaning of the poem.

There are incredible people out there

You won’t see them on television programs or on the cover of magazines. They don’t have an army of followers on social networks nor feel that the purpose of their existence is a little bit of recognition. They are authentic people. Maybe they don’t sing commercial songs or write books on personal development but their souls transmit energy. They are people that awaken hope, that give without measure and capture our smiles because they remind us how beautiful life is. Mythological creatures serving drinks at a cafe, reading at a park’s bench, making music in the streets. People who give what have silently without glorifying themselves. People with heartbeats that beat to the rhythms of life and vibrate at the frequency of happiness. There are incredible people out there, people who understand how to be people, and act like it.

Decisions are hard in life

It’s hard to choose which path to take but it’s part of the human experience. We must make decisions which will ripple into the future and shape our destinies. We are co-creators of our lives, the architects of our own futures and this realization entails us with great responsibility. We have the power to create our lives but it’s not easy to decide on its direction. How do we know which way is right? Do we make the big move to a new place? Do we take the job? Do we change careers? Do we risk? Do we rise or do we fall? It’s impossible to know today, but with time, there are no secrets and everything will be known. Your life is being written as you live it and nothing can be hidden, least of all from yourself. There will come a day when your life will be measured out in front of you in order to see how it all the turned out. And in your judgment day it doesn’t matter wether you face god, aliens, or a big giant mirror which reflects back the person who you truly are, for it will be you who will judge your decisions and your actions. When your life comes to a close you will see it wholly, and in its totality you will be able to see which decisions were right and which were wrong.

But what do I know? Some think that this journey is already pre-written and no matter what, you will end up where you are going. Maybe there is no such thing as a wrong or right decision, but rather, just the things we do, in order to create the situations which we need to continue on our evolutionary journey. Evolution is growth and life must evolve for it is it’s purpose to do so. We have to continue on our path towards happiness and continue to grow and better ourselves, mentally, physically(while we can), emotionally and spiritually. It’s said that what’s meant to be will find its way, but even if everything is pre-destined, how you maneuver through life and dance to its rhythms makes all the difference. You can allow the river of life to push you towards your destination or you can grab the sails, take the wheel and enjoy one hell of ride. You can flow with the waters, take life by the horns live, feeling fully awake and alive. How we live and react in our lives is up to us. It is all we have.

Architects of our own fortunes

Human beings must have challenge! That is understood by any thinking person, and we know the best challenge is the one which is the most natural. If men do not have such challenge, they find it in unnatural ways–perhaps in a fierce competition for power or money, perhaps in internal struggles that tear a society apart, perhaps in external struggles that become bloody wars. We know all this, you see; and so we have deliberately offered to our people– particularly the young–the challenge of the North, which is a challenge of nature. They have responded with enthusiasm. It is not good to give people security of body alone… we must also make a valid and good purpose for life. Those who go North find such a purpose.

Take Risks

To risk is to risk appearing the fool. To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To expose feelings is to risk exposing our true self. To place your ideas, your dreams, before the crowd is to risk loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying. To try at all is to risk failure. But to risk we must. Because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The man, the woman, who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.

-Emerson

-Emerson

Be Inspired, the Future is Ours

The Conditioned

http://vimeo.com/85667492

This video shows the story of Raimundo a homeless man from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He reminds us to never give up on our dreams and also to never give up on ourselves. He had a passion for writing and he followed it throughout his 35 years living in the streets. His dream was to write a book of his poetry and his life took a turn for the better when he became friends with a young woman willing to help. It’s never too late to make your dreams a reality, don’t give up.

“Dammed be the man who abandons himself. The worse the situation is, never, ever should a man consider it lost.” -Raimundo Sobrinho

Thank You for Sharing this Journey with Me

I found this posted online a couple weeks back but I couldn’t find the source. I did not write this but they asked to share… so i’m sharing. Thank you all who have shared in my journey and allowed me to share in theirs.

We enjoy music more in concerts.
Sports more at the stadium
Food more at restaurants.
Conversations more in person.

A song that builds when sung with others.
An athlete that becomes a legend as others watch and cheer.
Food that somehow tastes better because of the company, because of the noise of knives and forks clanking.
Words that seem to come on their own as a best friend finishes your sentence.

There is something deep within us that calls for connection.
Something within us that tells us that we are meant to share this existence.
That the beauty of life, of happiness, of love, is that it is shared.

That we were not born into this world as an omnipotent God.
A god that would have to be alone with its power.
We were lucky enough to be born into this world with partners.
Fellow travelers that hold our soul and walk with us through life.

We are lucky enough to share this life.
To share this existence, because it is only when love is shared that it grows.

Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

Share this with someone you want to thank for being a part of your own journey!

Cell Phones and Benzene Poison

There is a real human cost to our excess of technology, in this case it’s mostly cell phones. We constantly change our phones and newer versions pop up almost daily. Use, discard, get new one. Factory workers in China, and in many other parts of the world, are treated just like cell phones, use, discard, get new one. Why is it that Benzene is banned in the west but not in China, are their lives not equally as important? Even thought we might not feel it directly, their suffering also hurts us. We need to raise working conditions for everyone in the world, not just in rich countries. We are all connected. We all need to start living consciously and work to identify the direct and indirect consequences of our actions.
